I first heard the term about 10 years ago in Ken Burn's first baseball documentary. It started in the late 70's with a player named Felipe Pascal from Mexico. He played 1 year with the Dodgers. He was about 35 years old and a long time minor leaguer. He got his one shot in the majors and in his first 3 games he struck out 4 times each. After the 3rd game it became a bit of a joke. The media loved him though because he was a nice and funny guy. They asked him how he felt about this "feat" and he said he was just thankful for the opportunity because otherwise he would be back in Guadalejara "working at his family's Sombrero factory so this dream is golden".
